Synopsis:
“Ain” means spring in Arabic. This video tells the story of a spring that is drying up. We see the palm grove of Nefta, this unique place full of stories, source of inspiration for literature, source of natural resources for a city … It is a metaphor of the source, its search, its loss, around an object, the branch of the date palm stripped of its attributes and dried by the sun. And as one searches with a stick for a source of water in a desert, this journey takes the spectator from one landscape to another, from the Oasis in perdition to the desert, with the hope of finding another path, another horizon.
In this work I wanted to show the palm grove, this unique place full of stories, source of inspiration for literature, source of natural resources for a city… I have set my sights on the palm tree, which is in itself an endless source of production, as much culinary, craft … I wanted to explore a metaphor of this idea of the source, of its search, of its perdition. For this I chose an object that of the palm branch stripped of its attributes and dried by the sun.
In the culture of dates, women had the role of shelling the stem and sorting the dates. In other words a function linked to a well defined place. By taking space by walking, it is a way to reclaim a territory. The reconquest of a landscape by the female body in dialogue with the oasis, the desert, without any limit. And as one seeks with a stick the source of water in a desert, I have staged a journey that takes the viewer from one landscape to another, from the Oasis in perdition to the desert. With the hope of finding another path, another horizon.
It is also a metaphor for the evolution of the environment in the southern regions of Tunisia, where the economic and ecological situation is catastrophic. And during my residency in Nefta, while talking with the inhabitants of the city, I was marked by the fact that despite the current situation, there is a strong will to move forward, to find other solutions, to create new initiatives. And this film is in a way a tribute to this spirit.

Dans ce travail j’ai voulu à la fois montrer la palmeraie, cet endroit unique remplie d’histoires, source d’inspiration pour la littérature, source de ressources naturelles pour une ville… J’ai jeté mon dévolu sur le palmier, qui est en lui-même une source sans fin de production, tant culinaire, que artisanal… J’ai voulu explorer une métaphore de cette idée de la source, de sa recherche, de sa perdition. Pour cela j’ai choisi un objet, celui de la branche de palmier dépouillée de ses attributs et séchée par le soleil. Dans la culture des dattes, les femmes avaientt pour rôle de décortiquer la tige et de trier les dates. En soit une fonction lié à un lieu bien défini. En prenant l‘espace par la marche, c‘est une façon de reconquérir un territoire. La reconquette d‘un paysage par le corps féminin en dialogue avec l‘oasis, le désert, sans limite aucune.
Et comme on cherche avec un bâton une source d’eau dans un désert, j’ai mis en scène un voyage qui emmène le spectateur d’un paysage à l’autre, de l’Oasis en perdition au désert. Avec cet espoir de trouver un autre chemin, un autre horizon.
C’est aussi une métaphore de l’évolution de l’environnement dans les régions du sud de la Tunisie, où la situation économique et écologique est catastrophique. Et durant ma résidence à Nefta, en parlant avec les habitants de la ville, j’ai été marquée par le fait que malgré la situation actuelle, il y a une volonté forte d’avancer, de trouver d’autres solutions, de créer de nouvelles initiatives. Et ce film est en quelque sorte un hommage à ce souffle.
